Mumbai Star Hotels To Be Converted Into COVID-19 Facilities

MUMBAI: In a bid to manage the Covid-19 situation in Mumbai city, Mumbai hospitals are going to convert 4 and 5-star hotels into Covid-19 facilities. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Thursday, said it has approved two five-star hotels with 42 beds that can be used by private hospitals to admit patients who are not critical.

'More hotels wherein non-critical patients can be admitted will be added to the list in the next few days,' said BMC. Further, in the coming week, BMC is planning to set up an additional 2,000 beds (a combination of ICU and oxygen beds).

The specifications for such hotels state that the linked hotel should have approximately 20 rooms. The hospital will be required to provide round-the-clock facility to the hotel such as nursing, online consultation, medicines, biomedical waste management and ambulances.

Hotels can charge up to Rs 4,000 inclusive of taxes and meals per day for every bed. The amount will be paid by the hospital. Medical expenses such as doctor’s fees will be extra. The charge will be Rs 6,000 for twin sharing. Hotels can welcome walk-ins such as patients with no symptoms. However, the hospital will have to approve such patients.

Maharashtra recorded 58,952 fresh Covid-19 infections and 278 deaths, pushing the tally to 3,578,160 and toll to 58,804, the ninth straight day of over 50,000 new cases, even as the state began its 15-day curfew from 8 pm on Wednesday.
